What's new in FoodWorks 9 Nutrition Labelling

FoodWorks 9 Nutrition Labelling includes these major new features:

Country of Origin Labelling (CoOL)

If you sell food in retail stores in Australia, new Country of Origin Labelling (CoOL) laws become mandatory on 1 July 2018. This means food products packaged from 1 July 2018 must display the new labelling.

FoodWorks 9 Nutrition Labelling can help you comply with the new legislation. FoodWorks calculates the percentage of Australian content for your sub-recipes and final recipes, and helps you formulate your text statements. You can then publish this information for use in your label artwork.

FoodWorks 9 includes useful tools for working with CoOL. The CoOL Editor makes it easy for you to enter the percent Australian for all your raw materials which FoodWorks uses to calculate the percent Australian for your sub-recipes and final recipes.

And when you are reviewing the percent Australian calculated for a recipe, the CoOL Explorer allows you to explore the CoOL values for all its nested raw materials and sub-recipes.

FoodWorks also takes into account reconstituted ingredients, as defined in the legislation, such as juice concentrates.

New allergen: Lupin

Lupin is a legume which, like soy and peanut, has the potential to be an allergen. Lupin and food additives made from lupin are now being used more widely in Australia and New Zealand.

From May 2018, the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code requires that lupin be declared when present in a food.

FoodWorks 9 Nutrition Labelling includes lupin as an allergen so you can declare it in the allergen statements generated from your recipes.


FoodWorks 9 Nutrition Labelling has improvements to the way alcohol is handled, making it easier to comply with the requirements for the declaration of alcohol by volume in Standard 2.7.1 in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code.

New food composition data

FoodWorks 9 has new and updated data sources, including:

FOODfiles 2016 (released April 2017)

FOODfiles represents the largest and most comprehensive collection of nutrient data in New Zealand (the New Zealand Food Composition Database). FOODfiles 2016 contains nutrient information on 2,631 foods including carbohydrate, protein, fat, cholesterol, caffeine, vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, fibre, moisture and ash.  In FoodWorks 9, the FOODfiles data source offers up to 142 nutrients/components (including Vitamin D2 and D3) for 2,631 foods. USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference (Release 28)

The USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference is the major source of food composition data in the United States. In FoodWorks 9, Release 28 (SR28) data source contains data on 8,790 food items, with 110 nutrients/components available for these foods, including Vitamin D2 and D3.
