A FoodWorks database is a repository for the work you do in FoodWorks. The FoodWorks window looks onto an open database. You store your documents in folders within a database. The Navigation Pane on the left shows the contents (documents and folders) within the database.
- You can create new databases. Each database is self-contained and has its own properties. The name of the open database is shown at the top of the FoodWorks window as FoodWorks [database name].
- The types of database available to you depend on your license. Learn where you can get information about your FoodWorks program here.
- When you create a database, you choose the type of database you want, for example, a database for dietary analysis or a database for nutrition labelling. This determines its initial properties.
- You can modify the properties for the open database in the Database Properties dialog. See Overview - Setting database properties.
- For each database, you can specify the data sources (food composition tables) from which you want to select foods and ingredients. You can also publish a FoodWorks database as a data source for other FoodWorks users. For more information on data sources, see What is a data source?
- Your FoodWorks database can be stored as a single file on your computer with the extension .fwb. To check the location of a database, on the File menu, click Database Properties and click the General tab.
- You can also search your database and its data sources. See How do I search for foods in the Query view?
Notes
- When you create a new FoodWorks database, FoodWorks makes a copy of an existing database template. Database templates have the .fwt file extension.
