This topic discusses how to resolve common issues or problems that you might see in the Analysis Pane for a document:
Analysis Pane not showing
If the Analysis Pane is not shown on the right of the FoodWorks window, on the View menu, click Analysis Pane.
List of analyses not showing in Analysis Pane
If the Analysis Pane is narrow, the list of analyses is shown as a drop-down menu. To use the drop-down menu: In the Analysis Pane at the top, underneath the tabs, click the <analysis type> button (e.g. All Components), then select the type of analysis that you want from the drop-down menu. To step through each analysis, you can click the arrow buttons to the left and right of the button.
The Analysis Pane is resizable. If you would prefer to see the list of analyses on the left of the pane, click and drag to widen the pane.
Nutrient not shown in Analysis Pane
To show all the nutrients and components available for this database, in the Analysis Pane, click All Components.
NOTE: Not all nutrients or components available in FoodWorks will be enabled for this database. In general, nutrients are enabled to match the nutrient data in the data sources (food selections) you are working with. These settings are based on the type of database you chose to create.
NRVs (eg. AI, EAR, RDI) not shown
For Nutrient Reference Values (NRVs) to be shown for food record or meal plan, you first need to set the personal details. See: How do I calculate Nutrient Reference Values in FoodWorks?
No Serve tab shown in the Analysis Pane for a recipe
For recipes, to show the analysis per Serve, enter the serve information. A Serve tab appears at the top of the Analysis Pane.
No mL tab shown in the Analysis Pane for a liquid
For recipes and foods that are liquids, to show the analysis per 100mL (not per 100g):
- On the Measures tab for the document, select the Liquid check box.
- Enter the Volume values.
A 100mL tab appears at the top of the Analysis Pane.
Are the analyses for the whole document? Or for some rows only?
If some rows are selected in the foods or ingredients grid, then the analysis shown in the Analysis Pane is for the selected rows only. See here for how to select in the foods or ingredients grid,
To view analyses for the whole document, ensure that no rows are selected in the foods or ingredients grid. To clear all selections in the grid, click any grid cell.
Errors in the Analysis Pane - Nutrient values shown in red with 'greater than' (>) symbols or 'question marks' (?)
A nutrient or component value is shown as an error, that is, in red with a > ('greater than' symbol) or ? (question mark) when FoodWorks encounters a missing value for that nutrient during a calculation, or the calculation could not return a valid result.
Common reasons for these errors are:
- a missing or invalid quantity for a food or ingredient
- a missing quantity for an ingredient in a nested recipe
- a missing nutrient value for a particular food or ingredient in the data source being used
- a missing nutrient value for an ingredient in a nested recipe
- the yield for a recipe is invalid
- nutrient overrides for a food that has been added are set incorrectly
- a nutrient is enabled for which the associated data sources do not have values
NOTES:
- All nutrient values will have an error if FoodWorks cannot calculate the weight for a food or ingredient.
- If there are errors for specific nutrients, then there is missing data for that nutrient. Other nutrient analyses will be displayed.
Tips for tracking down the cause of errors
In the open document:
- Check quantities
- Check yield information
- To investigate particular nutrients, in the Analysis Pane, click the nutrient. This displays the nutrient column or the right side of the foods or ingredients grid. Then click the rows affected and check the data source for each food or ingredient. (The data source is shown at the bottom of the grid.)
- To show all the ingredient and foods in a diet or recipe, including those in nested recipes, on the View menu, click Food/Ingredient Tree
